Skyrocketing property taxes are the single most important issue to millions of New Yorkers. The property tax cap plan recommended by a special commission would allow your property taxes to continue to rise, up to four percent a year, every year. For hardworking families facing rising costs and tighter budgets, that’s simply not good enough.

I am proposing a better plan that would provide the real property tax relief New Yorkers need. My Property Tax Cut plan would cut property taxes by 20 percent right away, and completely eliminate them after five years.

Think about this choice - under the tax cap plan, after five years your property taxes could increase by 20 percent. Under my plan, after years, your property taxes would decrease 20 percent a year until they are gone. The difference could not be more clear.

The Propterty Tax Cut Plan would give school district voters the authority to eliminate residential property taxes over five years, with revenue replaced by additional State funding. Most importantly, my Stop Taxing Our Property plan would reduce taxes 20 percent a year rather than limit the year-to-year property tax increase to 4 percent.

The plan would be paid for through existing revenue in the State Budget, just as the State paid for the additional school funding resulting from the Campaign for Fiscal Equity (CFE) decision. Just as we invested in our schools, we need to invest in property tax relief. 

The Property Tax Cut Plan represents a realistic way to reduce and ultimately eliminate your property taxes, but we need your support to show the Assembly how critical this issue is. New Yorkers need to convince them to act on our legislation NOW. The time has come for New Yorkers to fight back against increasing property taxes.
